During his visit to London for the G20 summit, Obama took some time, and his
wife, to meet the Queen of England and her husband, Prince Philip. Obama not only presented Queen Elizabeth with a new iPod
– what every 83 year old wants – it came pre-loaded with his 2004 Democratic National Convention speech and
his 2009 Inauguration address! How thoughtful of him to make it easy for the Queen to watch his self-absorbed speeches over
and over and over again… in her royal carriage, while riding the London Eye, traveling in the Tube, relaxing at Buckingham
Palace – even while sitting on the Royal Throne!
Of course, it would have been much more fun for Her Majesty if Michelle Obama's
"hate whitey" tirade or a Reverend Jeremiah "God
Damn America" Wright sermon had inadvertently
been recorded on the gadget. But at least Obama helped the economy by buying something American… er, wait, the iPod
is manufactured in China.
Some observers might think the thug-in-chief is intentionally trying to insult
the Brits. A few weeks ago Obama gave visiting Prime Minister Brown a box of DVDs. That’s a great gift for someone who
is blind in one eye and losing sight in the other. And the DVDs Obama gave to the Prime Minister won’t work with British
players, of course, because of the various “region codes” used by manufactures to help thwart video piracy. After
Brown popped “Psycho” into the player and all he saw was a blank screen, one wonders if he thought his other eye
had failed.
Perhaps NBC’s Today Show had advance warning of the Queen’s gift,
because one guest on the morning program gushed, “This is gonna (sic) be the
most exciting encounter of (the Queen’s) long and successful reign. I think she’ll be absolutely fascinated.”
Inasmuch as Elizabeth II has been Queen since 1953, she has likely had more than a handful of exciting encounters. One
might even think that one or two of her lifelong experiences rank above meeting Obama and his (according to the media) lovely
wife but, of course, NBC would know best in these matters.
At any rate, the Queen is old enough to need bi-focals, so Obama logically gave
her a device with a tiny screen. (He, of course, gets a 52-inch plasma to use as a TelePrompTer for his news conferences;
perhaps his sight is failing too, from all that college “blow” and “smack.”) But considering Obama’s
success with the DVDs, there is a strong possibility his gift to the Queen included a 110-volt U.S. battery charger. Let’s hope the British tabloids are ready with their
telephoto lenses when the Queen plugs that into a 220-volt Buckingham
Palace outlet.
Come to think of it, perhaps the Queen will
always remember the Obama visit!
